Art and Music
St. Bernadette Arts and Music Programs
St. Bernadette School offers a wide array of opportunities in the arts for its students - both in and out of the classroom. As part of the regular school curriculum, each student participates in both art and music classes.
Outside of the classroom, students can take part in the Choir or Band. Each Spring, students are given the opportunity to audition for the Spring Musical. Past productions have included Annie. Jr., Beauty & the Beast, and Suessical Jr.
Our music program is designed to inspire and cultivate a love for music while reinforcing the values of faith, community, and excellence. Serving students from preschool through eighth grade, our music curriculum provides a comprehensive experience that nurtures creativity, enhances spiritual development, and fosters a sense of teamwork.
Preschool and early elementary students are introduced to the basics of music through singing, rhythm, movement, and simple instruments. All grade three students receive a recorder to learn and enhance musical concepts. As they progress, students explore more advanced concepts such as musical notation, harmony, and composition, with opportunities to participate in school-wide liturgies and seasonal performances that celebrate the Church’s liturgical year.
In the middle grades, students develop their musical skills through the SBS choir, instrumental lessons and ensembles (with the Paul Effman Music Company), providing them with the foundation to appreciate and perform a wide variety of musical genres. By the time they reach eighth grade, students have the opportunity to take on leadership roles in school performances (spring musical) and participate in advanced music projects.
Rooted in our Catholic faith, the program emphasizes the spiritual and cultural significance of music, helping students understand how music can be a powerful expression of worship, prayer, and service. We strive to foster not only musical proficiency but also character, discipline, and collaboration as students use their talents to praise God and enrich the school community.
The Saint Bernadette School music program is committed to developing the next generation of musicians who will carry their gifts of music with joy, compassion, and integrity throughout their lives.
