Curriculum

Math instruction at St. Bernadette School is rooted in rigorous, sequential development with a focus on problem-solving and critical thinking. Beginning in the early grades, students gain a strong foundation in number sense, operations, and spatial reasoning. As they progress, they tackle more complex concepts in algebra, geometry, and data analysis, with accelerated math tracks available in middle school. Regular review, assessment, and hands-on practice prepare students for high school-level coursework and standardized testing.

Our inquiry-based science curriculum spans three key domains: physical science (chemistry and physics), life science (biology), and earth and space science. Beginning with hands-on discovery in the early grades and progressing to lab-based investigation in middle school, students are encouraged to observe, question, and explore the world around them. Special emphasis is placed on real-world application, scientific method, and STEM integration—particularly through programs like our standout LEGO Robotics Club.

Technology is seamlessly integrated across the curriculum to prepare students for a digital future. Our program introduces age-appropriate tech skills, from basic typing and digital safety in the early grades to coding, research, and multimedia presentations in middle school. Classrooms are equipped with SmartBoards, and students in grades 6–8 are issued one-to-one iPads. Our dedicated technology lab and mobile Mac stations further support hands-on learning and creative exploration in every subject.

Art and music are integral to our students’ development, offering joyful opportunities for creative expression. In visual arts, students experiment with various media and techniques, developing their artistic voice. In music, they explore rhythm, melody, and performance through choir, classroom instruction, and optional band. Signature events like the Christmas Pageant and Spring Musical highlight student talent and bring the school community together in celebration.

Students begin learning Spanish as early as Pre-K and continue through Grade 8, allowing them to develop both linguistic skills and cultural awareness. Our Spanish program focuses on building vocabulary, conversational fluency, and an appreciation for the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. In addition, Latin is introduced in the upper elementary and middle school years to enhance vocabulary, grammar, and understanding of language structure, supporting cross-curricular learning in English and the sciences.

Through a rich Social Studies curriculum, students explore their place in the world—beginning with family and community in the early grades and progressing to global studies, civics, and U.S. history in middle school. Emphasis is placed on cultural understanding, historical context, and civic responsibility. By learning about the past and engaging with current events, students develop a strong sense of identity, empathy, and the ability to think critically about the world around them.

Our Literacy and Language Arts curriculum is designed to develop confident communicators who can read, write, speak, and think with clarity and purpose. Using a balanced literacy approach, students build strong foundational skills in grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, and creative expression. From guided reading in the early grades to literary analysis and structured writing in middle school, students grow into thoughtful readers and articulate writers, ready to meet the demands of high school and beyond.

At the heart of St. Bernadette School is a deep commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth of every student. Through daily religion classes, weekly Mass, prayer services, and service-learning experiences, students are immersed in the teachings of Jesus and the values of the Gospel. Our faith-based education helps students grow in compassion, integrity, and a strong moral foundation, encouraging them to live with purpose and serve others in their daily lives.
