Rev. Stephen M. Gemme

Pastor, St. Bernadette Parish
Email: sgemme@aol.com

Fr. GemmeFather Stephen M. Gemme is pastor of the St. Bernadette School.  He earned a bachellors degree in History with a minor in psychology and secondary education from Fitchburg State College in 1992.  After graduation he taught history, economics, and public speaking at St. Peter Marian, the largest Catholic Jr/Sr High school in the City of Worcester MA from 1992 to 1997.  During his time as both a middle school and high school teacher he earned a Masters Degree in Teaching History from Fitchburg State College, graduating from the graduate education program in 1997.   That same year he was accepted by the Diocese of Worcester as a seminarian and was sent to St. Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore Maryland to study for the priesthood.  St. Mary's is the oldest Catholic Seminary in the United States, being founded in 1791 by the Society of St. Sulpice.  In 2002 Father Gemme graduated with a Masters Degree in Sacred Theology and Divinity.  Upon graduation he served as associate pastor of St. Joan of Arc, a large and busy city parish in Worcester from June of 2002 until his appointment as pastor of St. Bernadette's in August of 2003.

Father Gemme has a great love for Catholic Education, having taught in a Catholic School for many years, and knows the importance of an excellent education: one in which the whole person is formed to be a good citizen and a good disciple of Jesus Christ.  Each and every person is called to live a life of holiness and charity.  He has a great devotion to Our Blessed Mother Mary, our patroness St. Bernadette, and the Most Holy Eucharist.  St. Bernadette Parish strongly maintains a chapel of perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and Fr. Gemme gives credit to this great devotion by the people of St. Bernadette Parish and School for the many blessings our community has received from God.

Mrs. Julianne Morin

Assistant Principal
Email: ap@stb-school.org

Julianne Morin was born and brought up in Australia. She attended the National Art School and Alexander Mackie College in Sydney and upon graduation met and married an American named Lee. They decided to live in the United States and soon after her arrival here, she attended Assumption College where she received a graduate degree in teaching and went on to do further graduate studies at several other colleges.

She began teaching in the Worcester Public schools Art Department and in the Gifted and Talented Program (P.E.A.K.) where she taught Arts and Humanities courses at places like the Higgins Armory Museum and The Worcester Center for Crafts which was great fun for her. At about this time she was a co-founder of a co-operative art gallery, called the Grove Street Gallery that provided exhibit space for many artists, both local and national. Mrs. Morin also had a studio at the gallery and exhibited her own work at many galleries in this area and other parts of the Northeast.

Mrs. Morin and her husband have a daughter named Sarah who prefers to be called by her nickname “Zoë” and who is now in her senior year at Parker Essential Charter School. After the birth of Zoë, Mrs. Morin joined her husband in Morin Communications Inc., a multi-media training company that specialized in video production and computer based training for large corporations.  Later, she returned to teaching at the Seven Hills Charter School where she was a founding faculty member. There, she taught Art and Social Studies, was 504 Co-coordinator, a certified trainer and an Administrator. After eight years at the school, she was very happy to find a home with the St. Bernadette School family as Assistant Principal, a position she enjoys immensely.

I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area of California and had the blessing and privilege of a Catholic elementary school education.  After high school I was fortunate to work for a Catholic hospital conducted by the Daughters of Charity as a Patient Service Representative and later as the secretary to the Director of Development.  I later obtained a position as secretary to the Astrophysics Branch of the Space Science Division at NASA Ames Research Center, where I supported 50 infra-red astronomers.  I held this position for 7 years until my husband was relocated to Boulder, Colorado.   While in Colorado I worked as the secretary to the High Altitude Observatory, a group of solar astronomers at NCAR.  Again, we were relocated by my husband’s work and found ourselves in Massachusetts.

I have been extremely blessed to work here at St. Bernadette School in the Office of Student Accounts.  Our son was a student here from first grade until he graduated from eighth grade in June, 2005 and he has benefited immensely from the Catholic environment and excellent curriculum provided by St. Bernadette’s as he began his studies at a Catholic High School.  I have many happy memories of our days here at this amazing Catholic school as it grew from one small building into a beautiful campus.  I continue to enjoy each new school year as all the students grow and learn thanks to our dedicated Administration and Faculty.

School Nurse
Email: nrs@stb-school.org

I have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and am a Massachusetts Certified School Nurse.  Recently I received my certification as Red Cross instructor, so I can offer Basic First Aid, CPR/AED and Babysitting classes.  This is my fifth year as a school nurse having worked at Abbey Kelly Foster Charter School for one year and with Worcester Public for three years serving a large middle school with 1000 students.

The Nurse’s Office is set up to serve all staff and students attending SBS.  We are dedicated to caring for all health related needs whether they be first aid, medications, record keeping, screenings or education.  Many services have been streamlined to help keep medication permissions and required paperwork to a minimum.

I am grateful that the opportunity presented itself to work here at SBS because this has allowed my son James, grade 6A, to attend as well.  The Hardy family attended SBS six years ago, but we found it too hard to continue because of the commute from Worcester.  My husband, Tom, and I have nine children ranging in age from 29 to 12.  We have also been blessed with 4 lovely grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sharon Drake

Grade Seven Teacher
Email: G7A@stb-school.org

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Words! I teach English and Vocabulary, and, on occasion, I throw in some French, Spanish AND Latin. Welcome to my BIO (life) GRAPH (write) Y, or biography.

I have been teaching, on and off, since 1971. I taught third grade for six years, fifth grade for thirteen years and English to grades 4, 5 and 6 for one year. Then I came to St. Bernadette School in September,2004 where I teach students in grades 6, 7 and 8.

My family consists of my husband and he likes Legos; two daughters who are grown-up, college graduates and twins. My home has A LOT (two words) of books, as we all enjoy reading.

I have always taught in Catholic schools; I attended Catholic schools from sixth grade until I graduated from high school. Very often, here at SBS, I am reminded of something I learned from my family and from my teachers in school when I was younger. So, this school is a wonderful place for me to be!

I am very excited about this upcoming year because I will be using the Nystrom “mapping system” in all of my classes. This material will help the students learn about Social Studies in a different and enjoyable way. We will also be using more technology in the classroom, including the Smartboard.

Hi my name is Mrs. Lien. I have been the art teacher at St. Bernadettes for the past nine years.  Prior to teaching here, I taught in Waltham.  I am the mother of eight children; four are students at St. Benadettes. My youngest Dylan entered kindergarten this year, and my oldest daughter, Courtney, just graduated from college with a degree in painting and is now an artist living in Boston!

I try to offer your children a stimulating art curriculum that encourages their creativity by exposing them to a variety of mediums (paint, clay, paper mache, print making) as well as introducing them to all of the great art that has evolved throughout the history of mankind.  We tend to get messy so please send your aspiring artist with a paint shirt!

Mr. Richard Stemple

I will also be looking for donations and periodic help to keep up with all the technology.

I started teaching outdoor education and Art at Paul Newman’s Hole in The Wall Gang Camp for the terminally ill. While at the Hole in the Wall I realized I still wanted to perform classical guitar, as well as work with children. I graduated from the Boston Conservatory in Classical Guitar and Music Education. I have taught middle school chorus, All City Chorus, and I even taught in Central America. Currently I have put on countless Christmas musicals, Spring musicals, talent shows, and student Recitals. Mrs. Ann Keegan

Spanish
Email: span@stb-school.org

I guess one could say that teaching has been my passion. Before coming to St. Bernadette's Catholic School I had taught in the Sutton Public School System for 41 years, where I taught foreign languages, namely French, Spanish, and Latin. Within those years there were times when I taught English. During those years I was advisor to many classes, clubs, and organizations within the system, however coaching a sport, except cheerleading, was not one of my passions. I had served as department head, mentor co-ordinator, organizer of the faculty newsletter, only to mention a few.

I have a BA Degree from Elms College, Chicopee and received a Masters Degree from Assumption College in Worcester and have continued to take post-graduate courses  at colleges and universities within the area.

Away from school my husband, Tom, a professional photographer, and I enjoy traveling and spending time with friends. I also like to sew, quilt, and cook. My husband also calls me a "magazine-aholic'. There is always one near-by, whether it be new or from an "age-old collection" of them. One facet of my life that might surprise you is that I love the sport of car racing.

Mrs. Deborah Cunningham

Resource Teacher (Primary)
Email: rt1@stb-school.org

Hi!  I’m Mrs. Cunningham, and I will be the new resource teacher for the primary grades at St. Bernadette School this year.  I began working here as a substitute teacher last year, and I fell in love with the staff, children and school on my very first day!  I am thrilled to now be a permanent member of the St. Bernadette School community.

I have a Bachelor of Education Degree (Pre-K - Grade 3), with majors in Early Childhood and Special Education.  I also have extensive graduate work and experience teaching reading at the primary level.  I have been both a classroom teacher and a Title One teacher for many years.

On a personal note, I am married to my high school sweetheart, Michael.  We have two beautiful daughters, Dianna and Ashley.  Dianna recently graduated from Stonehill College with an education degree, and she is now employed at The New England Center for Children in Southboro.  Ashley is beginning her freshman year at Quinnipiac University in Conn. as a nursing major.  Our 5 year old Golden Retriever, Brady, is our only “boy”!

I am very excited to begin working with the students this year, and I anticipate that we will have an exciting and productive year!
