Welcome to Spanish

Welcome to Spanish ...

Spanish needs to be fun and an enjoyable experience for all. It is offered to all students and in learning another  language young people are made aware of cultures and traditions other than their own. It also helps them to understand people of other countries.

For the younger students in the classroom, games and actions are used to promote long-term retention in a low-stress environment. Students act out commands given in Spanish, play games, sing songs, and listen to stories.

Topics to be covered in Pre-K  through the fifth grade, in addition to the Action/Response Program, will be greetings, origin, location, days of the week months, dates, age, weather, descriptions, etc.  Grades 3,4,5 will be learning to read and write more in Spanish.

In Grades 6,7,8 classes will consist of constant review along with thematic assignments. The first of these will be "FOODS". Students will be researching Spanish-speaking countries and making written/oral reports as well as a menu and conversing in a restaurant.

Cultural projects will be incorporated, instilling in them a love and appreciation for the traditions and life-style of these people. It is important for young people to interact in celebrations and to identify contributions made by people in the target language.

Homework

For the lower grades there will be no homework. However encourage your child to practice Spanish vocabulary and show you what they know.

Beginning with the third grade students will have a few assignments which will increase for students through Grade 8. Grades 6,7,8 will have a major project and some mini-projects this year.

Testing
Testing will be done informally, orally or written, based on what is learned in class. Grades are based largely on effort and participation.
