| We continue to tap into our creative side at St. Bernadette’s. The Art Room has been very busy and the results are beautiful. If you haven’t checked out the bulletin boards in the front of the school and across from the office, you should! Below is a brief description of current projects underway.
•Grade 3: We’ve been looking at the art of Pablo Picasso as inspiration for doing an abstract still life using craypas and watercolors. We are just starting a whimsical, imaginative moonlight garden painting. We looked at the art of Paul Klee for this.
•Grade 4: This class did a fabulous job on their city skylines. We learned about perspective and how to create 3-D looking buildings. We are now looking at the art of Kandinsky, Joan Miro and Paul Klee before beginning our abstract pieces from tissue paper and printing on top.
•Grade 5: We have been very productive lately. We did a realistic still life painting, a winter forest painting using only white paint and black paper and are just beginning a weaving project. We are creating a pouch.
•Grade 6: After creating their dream catchers and Chinese dragon puppets, we have begun our Egypt unit. This coincides with our history curriculum. We are beginning with creating a 3-dimensional Egyptian sarcophagus.
•Grade 7: We have worked very hard on creating their Art History books. Each student was given a different artist in which to create a book geared to a kindergarten level. We will share them with our reading buddies. We have just started our large flower paintings after learning about artist Georgia O’Keefe.
•Grade 8: Inspired by artist Keith haring, we created a large group sculpture of abstract figures in motion. We just began making masks of or faces which we will incorporate into a painting which will be an expression of themselves, a kind of modern self-portrait. |
