It’s hard to believe we have been in school for six weeks already. We are amazed and delighted at how quickly and easily our students adjusted to their new teachers, classmates and school environment. Our boys and girls are off to a great start.
The transitional program uses a developmentally appropriate curriculum that takes into account the child’s age, personality, cultural background, individual needs and level of development. This curriculum is primarily achieved through the medium of play and arts and crafts.
The medium of play encourages the child to socially interact, explore, problem solve, communicate and have experiences that develop self-esteem. While the age appropriate arts and crafts program allows children to experience success using a wide variety of media. These projects challenge the child to learn new skills and concepts.
This year we are excited to be supplementing our curriculum with a literacy program called the Land of the Letter People. It is the second level in the continuum of Letter People. The Land of the Letter People is designed to encourage oral language development, promote phonological and phonemic awareness and to develop the important concept of print awareness.
The first week of school we met Mr. M who has a munching mouth and believes that everyone is special. Next we became acquainted with Ms. T who has tall teeth and encourages us to practice good health habits. The third week we were introduced to Ms. F who has funny feet and is sensitive to the feelings of others. Mr. N came next with his noisy nose and his concern for safety. Finally we met Mr. H who has happy hair and is happiest when he is at home. |
