In an effort to best serve the learning needs of all students, St. Bernadette School provides support through the services of three Resource Teachers. The teachers have particular roles and responsibilities that, in collaboration with faculty and administration, combine to address a variety of learning needs. Mrs. Deborah Cunningham is assigned to assist students in PreK-Grade 3 while Mrs. Nancy Connor provides support to students in Grades 4-8. Mrs. Susan Hamilton is responsible for providing Math Resource support to students in Grades 4-8.
The goal in providing Resource support is centered in assuring that all students are able to meet high expectations, receive quality instruction and are challenged in a manner that correlates to their performance level. Student referral for services is determined by class performance, standardized testing results and teacher recommendation. In most instances Resource support is provided in the student’s classroom. In some instances small group instruction may be offered outside the classroom. Final determination of placement is made in consultation with parents. This procedure reflects the St. Bernadette School’s commitment to heterogeneous grouping as we strive to ensure that each student has an opportunity to be well prepared to succeed in all curricula areas at each grade level.
