Our school year is off to a great start. In Mrs. Samson’s second grade class, we are working hard and learning new things.
We are very excited to have second grade pen pals from St. Charles Borromeo
Catholic School, located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We are sharpening our
writing skills through a monthly letter exchange with our pen pals. It is
very fun to learn about our new friends and share ou
r mutual excitement over
receiving First Communion in the springtime!
We are reading award winning
stories in our literature books, such as 'Home in the Sky' by Jeannie Baker,
as well as meeting once a week in small reading groups to enjoy chapter
books. We show our love of reading by participating in a class bookworm
project. Each time we read a new book independently at home, we bring in a
construction paper circle that tells the title of the book, the author’s
name, and shows a picture of our favorite part of the story. Mrs. Samson
adds each circle to the bookworm’s body, which is mounted on the wall in
our classroom. You should see how long the bookworm is growing!
We also
love our daily math lessons in second grade. We have learned about
different types of graphs, fact families, and how to solve addition and
subtraction word problems. On Fridays, we get to play math bingo together,
which is a fun way to solve math problems. We always make sure we have good
sportsmanship and congratulate the winner, because our class takes pride in
treating others the way we want to be treated. We’re going to have a
great year! |
