Homework/Assessment:

1—Weekly Reading Log:  Each week your child will receive a reading log where they record books they read.  They should be reading (or read to) 10-15 minutes per night.  They will record number of pages read and then do a retelling of their favorite story on the back.

2—Spelling List:  The weekly spelling list is given out, with an attached assignment. Early in the year, it is often writing the spelling words. Later on, assignments can include using the words in sentences or stories, writing rhyming words or putting in ABC order.

*Reading Logs and Spelling Lists will be sent home on Monday.  The reading log is due the Friday of that week and the spelling test will be given that Friday.

(Unfinished schoolwork will be sent home to be finished and returned the next day.)

Assessment reports will be given out four times a year in November, February, April and June.

Star Student:

Each week one student will be honored as the “Star Student.”  Your child will bring home a large sheet of paper to use as a V.I.P. board.  It may be decorated with photos or hand-drawn, colored illustrations.  Your child may want to include pictures, hobbies, favorite foods, favorite toys, special vacations, and any other special interests.  You will probably want to help your child write captions to go with the pictures.  I know it will take a lot of work, so you will be given a full week to work on it with your child.  The “Star Student” will have a chance to “show and tell” their board and they will receive a “Star Student” certificate.
